Stress Management Vernon

Stress Management Vernon - Sadly, a lot of us do not handle stress in a productive manner. Now, stress is pervasive in our culture. It relates to the automatic overreaction of a part of the nervous system to a perceived threat from outside or inside the individual. In response to the threat, the brain sends a message to the adrenal glands to dump stress chemicals and this causes various affects on the body. Some of these effects include: an dilation of the pupils, constriction of blood vessels under the skin, increased availability of lipids and blood sugar and increased heart rate and blood flow.

These biochemical responses are part of the "fight or flight" response getting us ready to either fight a perceived threat or run away from it. In caveman times, these body responses were very useful. Today, luckily, we usually do not have to fight or flee to be able to survive on a regular basis. These responses kick in during a life-threatening or an emergency situation. As the body is hard wired with this response, it unconsciously takes place as a result of whichever "perceived" threat. If an individual has a lot of worries or lots of responsibilities, they can be running on stress a good portion of the time. With each phone call from the in-laws, each traffic jam or unnerving segments of the evening news, they could automatically launch into emergency mode. The issue with the stress response is that the more often it is activated, the more difficult it becomes to shut off. As soon as the crisis has passed, instead of leveling off, your blood pressure, heart rate and stress hormones all remain elevated.

Stress takes a heavy toll on the body, specially with extended or repeated activation. Prolonged exposure to stress can increase your chance of heart disease, depression, anxiety, infection, obesity and memory problems among others. It is vital to your health to learn ways to cope with stress in a more constructive way and know ways to reduce its impact on your daily life; if not the widespread damage it can lead to could prove really dangerous to your health.

To be able to maintain ones wellbeing and health, managing your stress levels is really essential. One major factor to nearly all visits to the doctor is a result of stress. Various individuals even claim stress as amongst the root causes to many illnesses. There are a variety of different techniques to Stress Management. Like for example, it can involve visualization, work out, herbal medicines, supplements, enhanced nutritional regime, relaxation techniques like deep breathing, yoga, meditation, tai chi, and all that, affirmations and assertive training. A common method of Stress Management is correcting cognitive distortions and analyzing thought patterns. One of the main aspects of Stress Management is to alter our perception of the external environment so that the concerns we encounter do not seem to pose a threat.
